The bad news

Couple of weeks ago, some kind soul decided to redecorate our mailbox in the middle of the night, using a bat or something. In a bit we are off to Lowes to find out if we can replace the mailbox, or if I am going to be out there digging a new hole for a new base, since the metal holding the box on is shattered.

To add to that bit of fun, Thursday my car started running funny. Kind of a jerking shudder during acceleration, as if it might stall. Plus heat indicator was pretty high (as in top of the meter). Got it home, called mechanic. Torrential rain with hail on Friday, so he didn't come look at it. He got jammed up yesterday, but came by today while I was at the movies (Iron Man rocks - even if you don't like Robert Downey Jr., or read the comics, go see it) and gave us the bad news - blown head gasket. First MAJOR repair on it in six years...plus it is the car making the voyage to New York in a month, so we were going to have it totally checked out before that by the same mechanic. Better to blow the head now, then in the middle of a thousand mile trip.
