Last night was the last big-hurrah at school - the annual Diversity Fair. Not that the population is diverse, or even that we study it. But we pay it pretty heavy lip service. Anyhow, at about 6:30 last night, one of the teachers on my team offhandedly mentions that one of the other teachers "may not have gotten a sub" for her three day absence to chaperone a 'field trip' to Saint Louis. A trip that has been planned for over 2 months.
So, I get a list of students yesterday. And then I get told of this possibility. Today, in my box I got a list of students to be put in each homeroom, and a revised schedule of classes. The slacker teacher didn't leave 3 days of work, didn't have the consideration to even write a little note thanking us for doing this for her, or even to mention the possibility to the two teachers staying behind. I pulled a little hissy-fit with the principal, who scrambled up a sub for us.
Turns out, my teammate hadn't even submitted a request for a sub in the system. If she had, and it hadn't been filled, that would be one thing. But to just sit back, knowing it wouldn't be her left holding a bag of shit, she just walked away, screwing the responsible ones. Add to this the fact that the chaperones were all hand-picked friends, who won't hang and supervise the kids (there is a security guard hired for the hall of the hotel), but will just vacation.
Glad I am moving to another team of teachers next year.
